alternatives
Okay, so in my last video clip I talked about putting matboard up. For me, matboard is an alternative to refrigerator frames with magnets. I thought it was a better option to tape the matboard on my fridge to highlight memories or just showcase pictures that will accent my kitchen.
Okay, so I purchased two Walmart lamps and placed them on my shelving in living room. The problem isn’t with the lamp on the first shelf, but rather with the one on the top shelf. I can’t reach it and I’ll be darned if I’m going to climb up and down on a step ladder every single day to turn it off.
If you have a small storage closet and the room to spare, you can use the clothes rack as a paper towel holder. My closet rod is expandable so it was simple enough for me to pull it away from the wall. All I had to do was…
If you have the room and prefer the put-it-all-in-one-place approach, you can quickly and easily store a multitude of (cleaning) supplies in your bathroom in a small laundry basket or hamper under your sink. This will take up even more room, but if you prefer more order, you can go for a laundry sorter instead.
If you’re moving and you want to cut down on time, use grocery bags instead of boxes. This will cut your moving time in half because you will be able to carry more bags in your hands than boxes. Not only that, you can fit more bags into confined spaces (i.e. car) as opposed to boxes.
With small clothes drying racks, the opportunities are abound. You’ve got a selection that it sure to suit you in spite of the fact that your space may be fairly small.
Portable Clothes Dryers are your best friend if you need something small and, of course portable, to take care of your occasional drying needs. They’re great if you live in a studio apartment, dorm room or even a one bedroom. Basically Portable Clothes Dryers are great in any place in which space is limited.
If you’re looking for a space saving alternative, a wall-mounted clothes dryer might interest you. The ability to save floor space in a small home can make the idea of owning a wall-mounted clothes dryer very appealing.
When money is low, you may like the idea of using a pedestal fan to dry your clothes. Obviously, there’s the option of air-drying–which I generally do. But there are times when you want to speed the process up (from a day to a couple of hours). This is when a pedestal fan can be your best friend.
Are you a big reader like me? Maybe you like to read more than you watch TV? If so, then you might find it annoying to deal with library books lying all over the place. Maybe you want a strategic system that will allow you to handle a multitude of books.
If you have the vertical space–that is, if you have the space to store a washer and dryer from floor to ceiling, but not side by side, a stackable washer and dryer set might be what you need
Washer and Dryer Combos aren’t to be confused with Stackable Washer and Dryers. Typically what you get when you get a washer and dryer combo is an all-in-one unit. A unit that does both washing and drying for you. Obviously, this will in turn save you quite a bit of floor space since you’re able to eliminate the need of an extra unit–that being either the washer or dryer.
Compact washing machines generally resemble your average washing machine, except they are much smaller and tend to be portable due to the need to connect them to the kitchen sink. They also usually are top-loaders, which means you toss the laundry in through the top of the machine, rather than say, the front like front-load machines.
When you live in a small place like a studio apartment or dorm, it may be difficult to get laundry done since it requires frequent trips to the laundry mat. The good news is that there are very small washing machines out there that can accommodate your needs.
If you’re not loaded with money and you want a simple, yet effective trash can, use mug hugs, cup hooks or curtain rod holders in combination with a grocery store bag.
If you want to go green and you want to stop using paper towels, consider using “grab rags” instead. What are grab rags? Oh, just a set of dingy wash clothes and towels that you can no longer use to wipe your hands, wash your body or clean dishes with.
A quick reminder… if it’s slipped your mind, you can save a fair good amount of space by doubling up. Use clothes pins instead of chip clips. They take up less space and can help you keep those annoying bags of food closed.
Your dust pan can do double-duty in the winter. Of course it will only work if you’re home or if you take it with you. But not only can it help you clear dirt off of the floor but you can also use it to shovel snow off of your car.
If you’re like me and you’re not fond of watching too much TV and you’re really particular about every inch of space you have, you might like the idea of the TV on Wheels. This is a simple idea. Nothing new. I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this one. However, it does bear mentioning again, because it’s how you think of it that makes it useful.
Like Chests of Drawers the best way to save space with a dresser is by searching for one with legs on it. This will give the illusion that you have more space in your room than you actually do.
Small Chest of drawers are the option you’ll want to take if you like the idea of having something like a dresser but something that isn’t quite as big. If you’re unsure of the difference, generally a dresser is nearly twice as wide as a chest of drawers and is substantially lower. It is often also either accompanied by a mirror or a hutch.
Using a Small Nightstand Table is another combination method that will replace a dresser and save you a good portion of floor space. Like all other alternatives, simply rely heavily on your closet to take care of larger clothing and then use a nightstand to store lighter clothing articles, such as undergarments.
Lingerie chests are ideal replacement for a dresser because they are much smaller. Not only are they tall but they are also lean which means they take up substantially less floor space. Like a dresser, you’d simply use a lingerie chest to store your undergarments while your closet works in favor of storing your larger clothing.
Using Plastic Storage Carts is another combination method when you want to get rid of an over-sized dresser and use the space for other purposes. Like the other methods, you would combine the use of a storage cart with the use of a closet.
The Underbed Plastic Storage Boxes are no exception to the rule. They offer you another combination method at an affordable price. Like with closet systems and storage beds, they offer you another way to save space by eliminating the dresser in a small bedroom.
If you have a small bedroom, the goal of saving space is your number one priority. In many cases this may mean using multi-purpose furniture, or in like this case, you may simply want to eliminate a piece of furniture.
A Closet Organizing System is the ideal choice when you want to eliminate the need for a dresser altogether. For ease of use, you would hang your clothing on the closet rods and store your undergarments in storage boxes and place them on an accessible shelf (within easy reach).
For an uncomplicated look, a bar stool is an effective alternative as a side table. You may be aware of this idea or have seen it before, but regardless, it bears mentioning or repeating. If you want a simple yet effective side table that will provide you with a clean look and feel, consider using a bar stool like in the photo above. You’ll also notice a book has been placed on top of the bar stool.
Well, like always, I try to find ways to cut down on redundancy. This time Iâm using my CD case covers to do it. This is a simple tip. One in which Iâm sure Iâm not the first person to think of. But just in case youâre one of those people who havenât thought about it, you might like the idea of using extra CD cases as coasters.
Recently I had to move due to my mom coming down this way. Since we decided to room together it meant a completely different apartment. That in turn also meant a different room for me. A much smaller room in the end. Knowing that I understood I was going to have to make some sacrifices. About 4 or 5 pieces of furniture and that was going to be it for me.
Okay, Iâm cheap. I admit it. And Iâm always looking for some way to get the same results with things I have stashed around the house. Why not, right? I mean it saves me space, money and Iâm able to put something to good use that has been sitting around for awhile. In this case, itâs a stereo system that has been the object of my interest.
