Small Homes: Kathryn’s Multi-Purpose Nursery

Our nursery is in a home 100+ years old. We wanted vibrancy, no pastels and chose eggshell walls (6 coats!) with candy-apple trim and black accents. Daddy hand-made the crib. Best part: totally unfinished when I went into labor a month early, daddy completed it in 36 hours!

Highlights of Kathryn’s Room…

  • Kathryn’s room is obviously well done with multi-purpose items. This is really beneficial if you’re in a similar situation in which space is extremely limited but the desire to have everything fit perfectly is a must. Looking around her nursery, you can learn a lot.

Shall I point out the clever way she took advantage of the shelving in the first picture? Did you also notice the baby shoes there? And what about the books? Talk about a great place for storing two items that can easily get lost or get in the way and using them to decorate the walls.

  • Also, don’t miss the hanging baskets on her walls. This is also a fabulous way to get items out of the way and provide yourself with a lot of storage without taking up floor space.

  • Lastly, take note of the multi-purpose wardrobe. You’ll remember Kathryn mentioned that she lived in a 100+ year old house. Well, it’s not uncommon for houses that age to be without closets. So, we can congratulate her for making use of the small space by the doorway to place a space saving wardrobe for her baby’s clothing and other miscellaneous items on the top and bottom shelves. Awesome approach, Kathryn. We love it!
