This is a simple idea. Nothing new. I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this one.

However, it does bear mentioning again, because it’s how you think of it that makes it useful.

Consider this…

Most TVs are stationary which makes it almost mandatory to own more than one so that you can put them in each room in the house. One for the living room, bedroom and so forth. But if you put it on wheels, all you need is one. One that can be moved to any location in the house when you need it and be stowed away when it’s no longer in use.

Indirectly, this will save you quite a bit of cash as well as space in your home. And let me also mention, you will find yourself doing more things that are spiritually fulfilling because it will inspire you to do better things with your time.

Because, let’s face it… watching TV every day is a major waste of time. I won’t go into a huge speech about it, but frankly it’s ridiculous how much time most people waste getting fascinated with the lives of characters that don’t exist.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for fiction and fantasy, but it has its place and time.

Ok, I did go into a bit of a speech. Sorry, I hate the TV-obsession craze of today because I think it leads people to caring more about fake folks than the real ones around them in their day to day lives.

But back on track…

Peerless Adjustable Cart

To have this TV-on-demand situation, you’ll need a TV (of course) and a rolling cart with several shelves so that it will hold your VCR, DVD player and other optional media related items, such as speakers. Using a TV of about 19-20 inches is ideal. Not too big, not too small.

Lastly, you’ll need storage space. A nice closet with a fair amount of space that’s easy enough to access when you’re in the mood for TV. Everything will be hooked up. All you do is plug the TV, VCR and DVD into an outlet, watch your favorite movie(s) and enjoy.

Personally, since I don’t have cable, what I do is check out movies from the library or just watch the ones from my collection at home. However, if your library isn’t very good, try getting a small simple subscription from Blockbuster or Netflix. Something that will allow you to have access to a good movie here and there yet keep you from watching too much TV.

Having cable is also fine, but it may work best not to have it. Your choice. Also, this setup may work best in homes with 1-2 people in them. But honestly, it will even work for a family of 3-5 people–as long as you all are in on it together and plan to turn TV watching into an occasional pastime instead of a daily routine.

Okay, I’m cheap. I admit it. And I’m always looking for some way to get the same results with things I have stashed around the house.

Why not, right?

I mean it saves me space, money and I’m able to put something to good use that has been sitting around for awhile.

In this case, it’s a stereo system that has been the object of my interest.

I have been looking around my house for a place to put my portable CD player, so that I could connect it to my speakers and get similar results as a larger stereo system.

At first I planned on putting it on a wall mounted shelf I have, but when I added the stand to my room I realized that was the perfect place for my mini stereo system.

I found it at the thrift store last year some time. The table used to hold my television, but since I no longer needed it for that, I put it in my bedroom to serve as a subsitute for a night stand.

It holds my table lamp, phone, miniature clock and now my mini stereo system.

I have a bottom shelf to the table and since I’ve put it down there, I’ve tried it out several times and I love it!

The great thing about it is that I don’t just have to resort to listening to CDs. My portable CD player also has a radio station so I can tune into a channel I like and listen to the radio at anytime.

I’ve gone without one for quite awhile so excuse me for my enthusiasm. I’ve had it around and I’ve used it here and there but for the most part it’s been stored away and I only pulled it out when I needed it.

I found the circumstance annoying, but as I said above, I couldn’t figure out where to put it. So I made do with pulling it in and out on an as-needed basis.

But now that it’s in a permanent place, I’m thinking about checking out some audio books from the library, easing back in my chair or laying in bed and listening to some stories.

Anyway, maybe you like that idea. If so, you can always do the same thing.

It’s definitely cost-effective if you have a set of speakers lying around and a CD player that’s no longer in use, and you have simple tastes.
