Small Homes: Maureen’s Bed and Breakfast-Styled Suite

We painted all four walls a pale grey and put down silver/grey carpet. The room was lacking something, and just looked like a small grey box. I added wallpaper with a white background and grey, black and white stripes to one solid wall in the room. That wallpaper made the room come alive and was my inspiration piece.

As you can see in the pictures, a few carefully chosen accent pieces such as a shelf, pictures, lamps, bedding, etc. added a warm cozy feeling to this small space. We put a queen size bed in the room so our guests could sleep comfortably, and that left little room for other furniture pieces.

We added one dresser with a mirror to reflect the rest of the room, two bedside tables, and a black and silver ceiling fan. We ended up with a great looking, warm, cozy guest retreat that our grown children and other guests can enjoy. Go to the following link to see pictures.

Highlights of Maureen’s Room…

  • Highlight one wall in a room
Like Maureen, remember if you want to liven a room up, you don’t have to always decorate all of the walls the same way. Maureen chose to use wall-paper on one specific wall to liven up the room. And you can see that it really does make a difference compared to all white walls.

  • Save space with nesting tables
Don’t forget that you can use nesting tables as side tables. Or just one set on one side of the room. The provides you with additional tables when needed while allowing you to keep used space down to a minimum.

  • Stow the trash can away
I really love how Maureen stowed the trash can away under the nesting tables. It may seem odd, but that would’ve never occurred to me because in all of my experiences growing up or decorating… the trash cans have always sat out in the openâtaking up valuable space. Her idea is very original, don’t you think?
