Small Homes: Jeff’s Furniture-Savvy Getaway
I think my small bedroom is the best because this is what all my friends and family always tell me (and I have to admit, I tend to agree!). Itâs tough still living at home, so I needed a bedroom that I could escape to for long periods of time which means it had to be equipped with everything. Iâve packed more furniture and electronics and other stuff into my tiny room than most people could cram into their house! I fear I will never move out. Mostly because it would take too long to move.

Highlights of Jeff’s Room
-
Like several other contestants, Jeff did such a great job at highlighting his own room that I’ll just be a tiny voice of praise in his endeavor to tell you about his glorious small space…
-
The first picture is the view when you first walk into my room. As you can see there isn’t much space to walk around in a room that has a single loft bed, a couch that folds out into a queen-sized bed, an entertainment center, a giant can of Coke, and a wraparound computer desk.
Note: Yes Jeff, there may not be much room to walk around, but it’s what Jeff did with it that counts. And he did a fantastic job. This is a good reminder that placing furniture under a loft bed can not only save you plenty of space but look awesome while doing so. I think how Jeff you’ve placed things also makes it stand out. If you’re interested in doing something similar, you can also take note of how well he organized things in his entertainment center: movies, audio/video equipment and the assortment of cars on top for a nice decorative touch. I like it!
-
The second picture shows my workstation. I put furniture all around it so that everything could be within easy reach without having to get out of my chair. I had to remove my closet doors to give myself room to sit at the desk. Note the coffee maker in the bottom rightâthat’s a must for those late-night study sessions! It’s programmable, too, so I can always wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee!
Note: Ok, let’s stop for a moment… Jeff’s workstation is in a very unique spot. I have to say, this is what first caught my attention when I first looked at his photos. I love the unconventional way he decorated his room. The desk isn’t perfectly against a wall, nor is it in the exact center of his room. He placed it in a spot that worked for him. Perhaps the desk itself induced some of his creativity, but his choice of location is still worthy of praise.
-
In picture three you can see my loft bedâit was free since I built it myself out of old palates from a warehouse I used to work at. Over the years I got tired of climbing in and out of it and hitting my head on the ceiling, so it has since been retired as a bed and is now used for storage.
-
Picture four shows where I sleep now. I took the single mattress from my loft bed and put it on top of the queen mattress from my futon to create a two-tiered bed. I can’t use the futon as a couch any longer, but it was worth it to have the option of sleeping on a soft mattress or rolling over onto a firm mattress depending on how I feel!
-
The last picture shows underneath the loft bed. In the bottom left is an air purifier to keep my room nice and fresh. I installed a ceiling fan, too, to help circulate the air. In the middle is the entertainment center that I builtâit’s so large and heavy that I had to build and assemble it inside of my room. And finally you’re probably wondering what’s in giant Coke can, right? It’s actually another entertainment center so that I can either watch two different shows at the same time or play video games while watching TV.
Hope you enjoyed the tour!
