Small Homes: Autumn’s Beautiful Bedroom Nook
I have the best small bedroom on the planet! I live in a tiny studio apartment in downtown DC and have no choice but to be very creative about my entire living space.
However, I do have to say there is a downside to my “bedroom nook.” Itâs such a nice quiet sanctuary that itâs hard to leave sometimes. I was sick with bronchitis last week and was more than happy to camp out in my little bedroom nook for a few days. Itâs bittersweet for me now because on March 19th Iâm finally moving to a bigger place (with my boyfriend), so Iâll have a regular sized bedroom to start decorating soon.
Iâm enjoying my last few days in my cozy tiny bedroom nook for now. If I win the prize, Iâll certainly be using it towards decorating the (normal) sized bedroom at my new place.

>Highlights of Autumn’s Room
-
Autumn highlights her small bedroom.
Autumn did such a good job highlighting her small bedroom that Iâm at a loss for words. I donât think thereâs anything I could say that Autumn hasnât already done such a wonderful job saying herself. So, in light of that, Iâll let her point out all the wonderful things about her small room… -
Use a large closet as a bedroom nook.
To create a “bedroom,” within my small studio apartment, I got creative by utilizing a 21 inch deep closet (removing the doors) and placing the top of my bed into the closet frame. The closet area works perfectly because it has built in shelves and a magazine rack which I installed (works great for storing books/alarm clock, etc). -
Create your own canopy to add flair.
Then to make it cozier, I installed my own quasi canopy structure above the bed and hung a soft lace curtain over it (to create a comfortable enclosed feeling inside. -
Use miscellaneous items to section off a room.
In order to separate my “bedroom nook” from the rest of my studio apt, I strategically placed a bookshelf to section off the areaâalong with a Chinese room divider (to cover the clutter and make it calm and peaceful looking). Youâll see in the pictures that I draped white Christmas lights over the bed (did it on a whim one Christmas and realized I liked it so much I decided to keep it that way). -
Use a swivel stand to do double-duty.
Aside from being cozy and receiving lots of “oohs” and “ahhs” from my friends and relatives, itâs very practical as well. My TV is on a swivel stand so that I can watch TV in my living room and then swivel it around easily to watch TV in bed. It has lots of space for books, an alarm clock and a small bedside table with a lamp. -
Use a storage bin to hold miscellaneous items.
There is also an extra bin on the right side of the bed (not sure if you can see it in the pictures) but it also holds extra blankets, pillows etc. The other amazing thing about it is that from my bed, you can look out the window and see the Washington monument and the white house! It always blows away the out of town guests (better view than any fancy hotel in the area). -
Note: Autumn, thank you so much for sending in your fabulous entry. Weâre still trying to recover from how beautiful it is. So, give us a moment to catch our breath. Your friends are justified by their “oohs” and “ahhs.” Stunning!
