Small Homes: Matthew’s Relaxed Island Theme
I think my bedroom is the perfect mix of masculinity with a relaxed island theme. Though having numerous personal relics, from the early twentieth century trolley car fare-box I restored to the slate fossil of a fern leaf I found with my grandfather as a child, my room is full of memories yet pleasantly uncluttered.
Highlights of Matthew’s Room

I didnât want to throw together a bunch of items that were all placed in one display at a retail “giant” so I took my time finding the right decorative items from many different places. It took me almost a year to find the right brass lantern to hang with braided “distressed” hemp twine, but Iâm very happy with the outcome. I also utilized the space surrounding the candle inside the lantern as a potpourri holder.

Probably my favorite piece in the bedroom is the architectural tin hanging over my bed in front of the framed grass wall-paper. The tin is only a very small piece of what surrounded the entire top of a façade of a warehouse in Baltimore, Md. that was built at the turn of the nineteenth/twentieth century. The warehouse burned down and this is a section of approximately twelve feet that was able to be salvaged. I love the fact that Iâll never run into this in anyone elseâs home!

All in all, from the wise old owl watching over my room to the paper weight “gift” my great-great-great grandfather returned home with after the battle of Cold Harbor for his wife, I think this is the perfect room to come home to!

Anyway, I’m assuming that’s an LCD TV on your dresser there? If so, that is a really awesome idea. I might have to steal that idea. But honestly, I think your entire room is picture-perfect.
