Alternatives: Compact Portable Washing Machines

This is the second alternative in the series on finding space saving alternatives to washing machines. You can find the first post, which is the entire tip list, here.

Compact portable washing machines generally resemble your average washing machine, except they are much smaller and tend to be portable due to the need to connect them to the kitchen sink.

They also usually are top-loaders, which means you toss the laundry in through the top of the machine, rather than say, the front like front-load machines.

You’ll also find compact portable washing machines load more laundry than small countertop washing machines. How much more laundry they do depends on the machine itself, but it usually at least ranges around washing double the load than you can get out of a small countertop washing machines.

Also, unlike countertop washing machines, the compact portable washing machines do include a spin cycle. The bad side of it all is, of course, that you’ll have to roll the washer from one location to another and hook it up to the sink, whenever you want to wash. However, in comparison to frequent trips to the laundry mat, that’s probably a much better alternative to you.

As for what’s on the market, you can check out three compact portable washing machines: the Haier Portable Washer, Danby Portable Washer and the Avanti Portable Washer. There is also a Danby Portable Twin Tub Washer, if you’re interested. The Twin Tub is, of course, a little wider than the others.
