Beds for Small Spaces or Small Rooms
Q. My son is 10 and very tall, he needs a new bed with very small room. What do you suggest? I have looked at Murphy beds, but they are very costly.A. Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for writing! I apologize for the slow reply. I got swamped with some reviews I had to do. I have a few answers which might work for you…
This might be a bit of an off-the-wall suggestion but would you by any chance be interested in a bean bag bed? It might be a great bed for a small space if your son would be comfortable with one of those they may work well for you…
They are also pretty affordable and are easy to stow away if the size isn’t too large. And you can refill them. The downside is just making sure you prevent leakage of beans bag filling. There are also foof/fuf chair beds as well. The difference is that they’re simply filled will cushion filling instead of bean bag filling. However, I’m not sure those would last long beyond the occasional guest lying on them which is why I recommended bean bag beds first… since the chance of comfort seems higher when lying on them repetitively.
But if you’re interested in foof/fuf beds, you can find an example of a queen bed for your small space here.
Perhaps if those ideas aren’t of interest, you’d like something like the Fu-chest? It’s a bit more affordable than the Murphy Bed and hides away. However, there is the grunt work of opening it and closing it every night…
There is also the Zzz-chest, assuming you haven’t come across it. But would be very convenient for a small bedroom if you can afford it. It resembles the Murphy Bed quite a bit and is more expensive than the fu-chest. About twice the amount, which I’m guessing is probably too high for you.
You could also try the Whittier and Wyman bed. They’re also great beds for small spaces. They may cost too much as well. I’m not sure of your budget but I’ll list them anyway.
With those beds, if you don’t have room for the bed, you could consider getting rid of the desk portion and simply use the bed portion.
I think that’s all I have in mind right now besides the obvious futon or daybed as beds that you can use for small spaces, which I’m sure you’ve already thought of.
Anyway, I hope that helps. Thanks again for writing in and have a wonderful day, Cheryl!
Warm Regards,
Tameka Norris
