A Little Bit About FFSS and Family

Furniture for Small Spaces is a family owned and operated business. We thank God for the blessings He’s bestowed upon us to allow such a wonderful site to transpire. We’ve evolved the “About” section because we want you to know more about us. We feel that getting personal is part of what makes FFSS so special.

We don’t want to just be a voice… we want you to know that we are people too. We go through the same small space trials that you do. So, here you can find out a little bit about us as well as the history of Furniture for Small Spaces—how the site began and where it’s headed.

Let us start by introducing ourselves…

Tameka

I am the Founder and President of Furniture for Small Spaces. I’m 30 years old and I’ve lived in small spaces all of my life. Due to this, over the years I’ve come up with a number of ways on how to save space. This eventually led me to want to start FFSS so that I could share my ideas with others. However, in spite of the fact that I enjoy working on FFSS I do have other dreams and ambitions…

Val

I am a 3 year old, lazy good for nothing dog. While those two are working, I like to eat up all of the food and chew on things that I’m not supposed to chew on. But I also know a thing or two about living in small spaces. For months I lived in a kennel and it drove me crazy. No one to talk to. No room to play around. That’s why when these two adopted me, I was overjoyed. Now I get…

How Furniture for Small Spaces Began

Furniture for Small Spaces launched in the earlier part of 2005. And although the site was launched at that time, very little work was done on it until the latter part of 2006.

During the time it was launched, I had little faith that it would turn into a full blown business. Although my intentions were to make a few bucks, I had long since given up on the idea that there was a website that I could enjoy and make a living from at the same time.

Over the course of 12 years, I’d had a history of creating websites that bombed and ideas that failed, that by the time I got around to launching FFSS I was exhausted and ready to give up on my dreams of being an entrepreneur.

FFSS was basically one of the last “big ideas” that I had left in me.

Although I had passion for the site, I was so tired of dreaming “big” that once I initially launched it and created a couple of pages, I didn’t have much energy or passion left to continue working on it. So I let it sit for about a year.

During that time I decided to entertain the idea of going back to college—to get educated so that God could actually do something with me and my life.

Over the course of several months, I applied and took a couple of courses at Columbus State Community College. By then I’d forgotten about FFSS and was ready to live in “reality” so that I could work toward a future that didn’t tease me with false promises.

But I had an unexpected surprise coming my way. It was during the latter part of 2006 that I logged into some of my accounts and noticed I was making money.

It took a few minutes before I realized it was FFSS that was making me money. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to renew my passion and give me an incentive to add a few more pages to the site. I added a few more, then forgot about the site once again and busied myself with schoolwork.

A month or so later I logged back into my accounts and saw that my money had increased. I’d gone from making $10 a month to about $30. It was at that point that I started to have a suspicion concerning what God had in mind for me and I began taking the site seriously.

When I wasn’t studying or at school, I worked on the site in my spare time. Over the course of several months, the site shot up from earning $100 every three months to earning $300 a month. This was about the time that I knew I needed to decide between school or the site because I couldn’t juggle both.

After doing some thinking, I decided it was best to drop out of school for the time being and work on the site until my financial situation was way better and then I would go back to school and get an education.

So I worked hard and my income increased.

During this time my mom also lost her job and moved up to Columbus, Ohio with me. We talked things over and we worked out a situation that made us both happy. She would pay the rent and support me while I continued to work on the website so that I could get to a point in which the site was earning me full-time income.

It took some hard work and several months but as the months progressed, the income increased…

…and today I make about $1700 $2000 a month.

And as each month continues to offer a bigger financial blessing, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be my own boss. It took a long time to get here but the hard work and support from my friends, family and mother paid off.

In return, I plan to go back to school in the future and give something back. Whatever God sees fit to have me do. As I’ve said before, “God didn’t get me to this place so that I can lead a self-centered life.”

The financial freedom and freedom of being my own boss wasn’t accomplished so that it could only benefit me. The freedom I have was given to me so that God could use me to also be a blessing to others.

So, I just want to thank you for being a supportive visitor of FFSS. Any support I receive is greatly appreciated, especially from visitors of the site.

If you ever have any questions, suggestions or comments about the site, please feel free to write me any time. You can contact me through my contact page and I’ll work hard to get back to you as soon as I can.

Warm Regards,
Tameka Norris
